Phi Phi Island

We've had a chilled time soaking up the sun on the beautiful Phi Phi island! Myself and Matt aren't really "lay on the beach for a week" kind of people. We like to explore and be active in new places, however it was so hot we were thankful to have a little bit of chill time and do a bit of snorkeling in the sea. Rather than stay at the overcrowded and grubby Tonsai Bay for the day, we took a long tail boat over to Long beach. A stretch of beach on the southern part of the island. It was peaceful and relaxing. After a few hours of basking in the sun we set off to find the Kho Phi Phi view point. This is the highest point of the the island which just happened to be an hour walk up a mountain. Seriously under prepared we set off on our trail with very little water and both of us wearing flip flops, it became apparent very quickly that we did not know what we'd signed up for. The path was thick with mud in places, there were swarms of mosquitoes everywhere and the direction signs were like something out of Alice in wonderland! My shoes were so uncomfortable we ended up walking bare foot! Eventually after wondering off the beaten track several times, we reached the top just in time for the beautiful sun set and once settled with a fresh bottle of water, we felt like our efforts were worth it.
Nightfall brings a whole new side to Phi Phi island! The beaches light up with fire stunt shows accompanied by music and lights. The Limbo pole comes out and shots are on tap for anyone taking part in the games. it's actually really fun and very impressive watching how skilled the performers are. You can also buy a bucket of spirits and mixers and just wonder the streets freely, getting merry. I really
enjoyed Phi Phi but two nights of craziness was definitely enough for us and we're ready to explore our next stop.
