Bangkok is crazy!

...Or 4! Arrived in Bangkok to be instantly smacked in the face with the hottest, stickiest weather i've ever felt. I felt like my throuat was drying up faster than I could drink water.

Bangkok is just a world of it's own! As soon after arriving, we quickly realised that people do what they want here. Motor bikes drive up and down the pavement, anyone and everyone is trying to sell you something. With no welfare system, it is very apparent that everyone has to make a living. We were very cautious about trying the street food out here as we had heard some horror stories about people feeling ill for days. However, I was obsessed with the fruit smoothies which were so cheap. You could pay around 50 Thai Bhat, average 90p, for a fresh fruit smoothie packed with all the fruit you wanted and in the 35 degree heat I couldn't get enough of them.

Thailand recently lost their king, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Don't ask me how to say it!). The whole country is in mourning for a full year and the majority of citizens choose to wear black throughout this period. We visited some wonderful sights in Bangkok, the temples are breathtaking but undoubtedly the most memorable was our trip to the Grand palace. The king is laid in wake here and everyday more than 100,000 mourners arrive to pay their respects to the king. It was like nothing we had ever seen before. The was a sea of people wearing black lining the streets for more than half a mile from the palace. We we're asked to change before entering the palace and we were given full length clothing, free of charge in order to enter the palace.

Bangkok as a city isn't actually so big but it is so over populated it's easy to understand how you could get lost here.

Like most people visiting Bangkok we were interested to see if the nightlife was as wild as it's reputation, well it certainly is. When the sun sets, Bangkok's most renowned hot spots Patpong and the newer Soi Cowboy, for downing drinks and mingling with the ladies of the night does not leave much to the imagination!
